Belgaum: In sharp contrast to the decision of the Karnataka State Lorry Owners’ and Agents Association to go strike to oppose installation of speed governing devices in their vehicles from midnight of Sunday, the district association has decided to wait till the High Court delivers its decision on the matter and join the strike if the ruling went against the transporters. The matter is coming up in the court on Monday. Conveying this at the district-level task force committee (TFC) meeting attended by Deputy Commissioner M.E. Shivalingamurthy and Superintendent of Police Hemant Nimbalkar here on Sunday, Belgaum District Lorry Owners and Agents’ Association president I.B. Melamatti and Belgaum District Maxi Cab Owners’ Association president C.N. Rachannavar promised that in the event of their associations joining the strike, essential services would be spared. Regional Transport Officer and Member Secretary of the TFC J. Purshottam, Assistant Commissioner Satish B.C., and Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies M.R. Hiremath and representatives of different petroleum companies and Karnatataka Milk Federation were present. Mr. Shivalingmurthy warned the transporters that the district administration would strictly enforce provisions of Essential Services Maintenance Act if there were instances of creating scarcity and hoarding/black marketing of essential commodities such as milk, fuel, medicines, vegetables and fruits, foodgrains and edible oils, etc. Mr. Purshottam said members of public can inform about any hoarding, black marketing, refusal by petrol pump owners to supply fuel, etc. to the control rooms at the RTO (Ph. 0831-2465503) , Office of the Deputy Commissioner 247200 and Police Control room on (2405231 and 2405237).
