ALAPPUZHA: Communist Marxist Party (CMP) leader M.V. Raghavan has said the CPI(M) should drop moves to form a third front and instead join hands with secular parties like the Indian National Congress and tackle “religious fundamentalists” like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said, “Since the CPI(M) alone cannot tackle religious fundamentalism, a Left-headed third front will only help forces like BJP. The Left had formed a third front earlier, and that had only helped BJP rule the country for six years. That mistake should not be repeated,” he said. “The party should also not forget that hundreds of people sacrificed their lives for the cause of socialism. The Punnapra-Vayalar revolts and the uprisings in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal all witnessed martyrdom for socialism. That is why party conferences should stop dwelling on factions, and instead clarify to its cadre the party’s view on foreign capital. They should stop wasting energy over issues with the NSS and the Church and find time for the politics that the CPI(M) was formed for,” he said.
