Kakinada: A workshop on surgical gastroenterology was conducted at Government General Hospital (GGH), Kakinada on Sunday. Participating as the chief guest, P. Radhakrishna, Head of Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at the Apollo Hospitals, Chennai said technology has been helping the surgeons a lot in tackling the varied ailments of the gastrointestinal (GI) system. Today, there is no GI surgery which is not done in India. Both open and laparoscopic surgeries are performed efficiently throughout the country thanks to the advanced technologies and continuing medical education programmes like this workshop that are helping the surgeons to keep themselves abreast of the latest techniques in curing the GI disorders. Sedentary lifestyles and consumption of junk food are the main reasons for GI disorders, he observed. CancerRadhakrishna’s wife and Consultant Mammoplast Surgeon at the Apollo Hospitals, Chennai P. Selvi Radhakrishna said one out of every 28 women in the metropolitan cities are nowadays suffering from breast cancer due to various factors but most of the cases are successfully dealt with. Later, Radhakrishna performed Puestow’s procedure to cure Pancreaticolithiasis.
