Officials of 16 departments rounded up Seven officers had disproportionate assets over Rs. 50 lakhs BHUBANESWAR: Continuing its drive against corrupt government employees, State Vigilance Department registered disproportionate asset cases against nine officers of Class-I and 11 of Class-II and detected properties worth a whopping Rs. 13.33 crores from 48 maligned officials during the year 2007. Vigilance wing of the State police rounded up officials of 16 departments in the process last year, a bulletin released by the anti-corruption wing said here. Of the 16 departments, highest number of cases were filed against officials serving in civil supplies department while employees of water resources and urban development departments closely followed the former. As many as eight officials from the supply department were trapped by vigilance sleuths during 2007 while Rs. 2.35 crore of assets disproportionate to their known source of income was detected in the process. Similarly, six officials of Water Resources department were found to be entangled in corruption charges with the anti-corruption wing tracing Rs. 1.70 crore from them. On the other hand, Rs. 79.01 lakh worth assets were discovered from five officials of urban development department. “Of the persons involved in 48 cases, nine are class-I officers, 11 are class-II officers, 28 class-III employees and 3 private persons (relatives of public servants),” the anti-corruption wing said. Vigilance sleuths had found highest individual disproportionate assets worth Rs. 77,95,741 from Bipra Charan Choudhury, Junior Motor Vehicle Inspector posted at Unified Check Gate, Luharchati in Baragarh district. While assets valuing Rs. 66.48 lakh were seized from one Dhruba Charan Rout, who was additional director of Orissa Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) at Bhubaneswar. As many as seven officers were detected to have possessed assets over Rs 50 lakhs disproportionate to their known source of income. Similarly, about 10 officials were in possession of assets between Rs 30 lakhs and Rs 40 lakh, additional inspector general of police (vigilance) said in a statement.
