Two beaten up by Maoists

Malkangiri: Two members of a family were assaulted by Maoists near Kattakunda village, about 70 km from here, police said on Sunday.

Suspecting the former panchayat samiti member Bisu Madkami and his nephew Ganga to be police informers, Maoists took them atop a hill and tortured them on Saturday, SP S K Gajbhiye, said. The two told police that they were seriously beaten up and finally let off with a warning and instructions to pay Rs 50,000, he said.

After their release both managed to reach home with the help of villagers and then they were taken to hospital where their condition was stated to be crticial, police said. PTI
