Directives issued to local bodies Erring officials warned of action Thiruvananthapuram: The State government has tightened the rules for renewal of licences of commercial establishments during the current year. Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty said here on Sunday that the government had issued directions to panchayats, municipalities and corporations to implement the rules strictly. Banned plasticHe said that the licence of commercial establishments which continued to use banned plastic would not be renewed. Similarly, establishments that failed to mention the place of operation in their signboards would face similar treatment. Commercial establishments, including hotels and shopping establishments, which do not have primary facilities, must make provisions for them before applying for renewal, he said. Stalls handling poultry, meat and fish should make arrangements for removal of waste to be eligible for renewal of licence. Establishments which failed to abide by these rules would not be able to renew licences. The government would not hesitate to take action against erring officials, he added.
