‘For misleading people on regularisation issue’ NEW DELHI: Saket MLA Vijay Jolly on Saturday accused Delhi Urban Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan of misleading the public on the issue of regularising unauthorised colonies in the Capital and demanded he be made to step down. The BJP MLA said the Department of Urban Development of Delhi Government had released a public advertisement regarding regularisation of unauthorised colonies in Delhi in November 2007 that was both “misleading and false”. He said while the Delhi Government had through the advertisement confined itself to regularising only 1,539 unauthorised colonies, the fact remained that many more colonies can be regularised as per the new guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Urban Development on the issue. Mr Jolly said the Government is also stating that it has received applications from 1,370 colonies seeking regularisation and has stipulated the last date for submission of applications as January 31, 2008. But, he expressed “surprise and dismay” over the latest advertisement issued by Delhi Government saying it “does not rectify its earlier mistakes as contained in its advertisement of November 14, 2007”. Also, he said, the Delhi Government has not made any mention of the fact that as per the new guidelines there is actually no need to provide land for service and public utility plans in these colonies. He said the Union Minister of for Urban Development Ajay Maken has clearly stated that the notification of October 5, 2007, does not limit itself to only 1,539 unauthorized colonies. Also, he said, it also includes all residential units that had come up in the demarcated colonies up to February 2007 and applies to all new colonies, village abadi extension areas, lal dora and lal dora extension areas. “But against this major relief announced by the Union Government, surprisingly the Delhi Government has limited itself to regularising only 1,539 unauthorized colonies for strange reasons,” he said, adding that this has created confusion in the minds of the people.
