Credit flow to agriculture sector to exceed target

PUDUKOTTAI: Credit flow from commercial banks to the agriculture sector during the current financial year will touch Rs.2,40,000 crore as against the target of Rs.2,25,000 crore, Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said on Sunday.

Speaking at the inauguration of a Vijaya Bank branch at Rangiyam in Pudukottai district, he said so far, 12 lakh students had received educational loans to the tune of Rs.16,000 crore. Mr. Chidambaram appreciated the bank’s endeavour in starting the branch, with all facilities including Core Banking Solution (CBS) and an automated teller machine (ATM) service. Mr. Chidambaram said the branch would cater to the banking needs of depositors of Raangiyam, Mithilaipatti, Sedarapatti, Kannanur and Kuruvikondanpatti.
