Nabbed: Special Task Force personnel with arrested Pakistan national Imran Qureshi alias Waris in old Bhopal on Sunday. BHOPAL: With the arrest of a Pakistani national and two of his associates from Sagar, the Madhya Pradesh Police on Sunday claimed to have busted an espionage ring allegedly engaged in supplying sensitive defence related information to Pakistan. According to Police Headquarter sources here, a Special Task Force and district Police team raided a house in the Mangalwara Police station area here during the intervening night of January 19 and 20 and nabbed one Imran Warsi, who reportedly told the police during interrogations that his original residence was at 402 Kulsum Heights, Gulshan Iqbal, Karachi in Pakistan, where his parents were still residing.. The police have seized from his possession incriminating documents linked with national security. On the basis of information collected from him during interrogation, the police have arrested two more persons, Iqbal and Akhtar, from Sagar. Police have claimed that both of them have confessed during interrogation that they were supplying sensitive defence-related information to Imran. The police have also been told that Iqbal was the conduit for receiving money from Dubai through the Western Union Money Transfer and this money was being passed on to Imran. The police have seized a ration card, a PAN card and a domicile certificate from Imran — all said to have been acquired illegally for him by Iqbal. On the basis of these documents, Imran was also trying to acquire an Indian passport for himself as well as other members of his family. During interrogation, Iqbal reportedly told the police that he was sent from Karachi to Delhi by plane in December 2003. He first went to Kolkata and then Dhaka in Bangladesh, where he married his relative’s daughter. He is said to have told the police that he came in contact with Iqbal at Sagar, who was allegedly helping him supply sensitive information to Pakistani ISI agents through e-mail and by phone. Assistant Inspector General of Police (STF) Manoj Sharma and Deputy Superintendent of Police (crime branch) Nimisha Pandey have been closely involved in the operations that led to the arrests.
