‘BC Garjana’ aims at restoration of rights of poor

Congress accused of marginalising BCs in politics

WARANGAL: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will explain to the people of the State on what it had done for the uplift of Backward Classes since its founding and announce its plans to further empower them, said senior leader N. Janardhan Reddy.

Mr. Reddy was here in town to oversee the arrangements for ‘BC Garjana’ to be held on January 23 . Addressing a press conference, he said it was TDP founder Late N.T. Rama Rao who provided for 20 per cent reservations in politics in local bodies and 9 per cent to women for the first time in the history of the State. It was the TDP which first created an awareness about politics among the masses.

It provided an opportunity for many BCs to emerge as leaders. The Congress party still continues to adopt a feudal attitude depriving the BC leaders of a chance to grow in politics.

Political ‘neglect’

Former MP B. Venkateswarlu said many BCs who were loyal to the Congress party were deprived of political appointments. In Warangal district, well-known BC leaders in Congress like Banda Prakash and Hari Rama Devi were sidelined and humiliated. N. Raja Kumari, another leader spewed fire at Chief Minister accusing him of shielding the corrupt public representatives.
