THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Singer K.J. Yesudas has alleged that he was “insulted” by the authorities of the Kadampuzha Devi temple in Malappuram district by refusing him entry on religious grounds after being invited. “I am deeply pained at the experience I had at the temple. Even cats and rats can go near the God. Why Yesudas is barred?” Yesudas was interacting with students and alumni at the Swathi Thirunal Music College here. Yesudas, who was born Christian, has rendered hundreds of Hindu devotional songs. The singer said he did not face any such discrimination at the famed Mookambika temple at Kollur in Karnataka or the hill temple of Sabarimala. Executive officer of the Kadampuzha temple C, Naryanankutty, however, refuted the singer’s claim that they had extended an invitation to him to visit the temple where “non-Hindus” are not allowed. He said Yesudas had come to the temple on his own without being formally invited. — PTI
