Bangalore: It was on January 15, 2007, that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) directed the Governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to pay compensation, within four weeks, to those victimised by the Special Task Force (STF) during the anti-Veerappan operations. One year later, 13 of the victims, who were to be compensated by the Karnataka Government, are yet receive relief. Bangalore-based South India Cell for Human Rights Education and Monitoring (SICHREM) has appealed to Governor Rameshwar Thakur and NHRC chairperson Rajendra Babu, to intervene and ensure justice to the victims. “Explain delay”Under the Right to Information Act, SICHREM Executive Director Mathews Philip has also asked the Home Department to provide the reason for the long delay in relief disbursement.
