VIJAYAWADA: Central committee member of the CPI(M) V. Srinivas Rao on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Congress leaders from coastal Andhra and said they were the biggest threat to united Andhra Pradesh. Addressing a public meeting at Gymkhana Grounds to mark the inauguration of the party’s 20th district convention, Mr. Rao said if the Congress leaders were genuinely interested in ‘Samaikhya Andhra’, they should stop stoking the fire of Telangana. “The least they can do is keep mum,” he advised, making an obvious reference to the local MP Lagadapati Rajagopal’s remarks on the issue. He said people were eager to dislodge the Congress Government from power for its misdeeds and patted the local party leaders for putting up a tough fight to prevent implementation of anti-people policies like collection of user charges, hike in property tax and installation of water meters in residential areas. Referring to the erstwhile rule of the BJP at the Centre, he said the party’s slogan of ‘India Shining’ was actually an inferno that ultimately reduced the BJP to ashes. The UPA Government must draw lessons from its past experiences and mend its ways if it wanted to continue in power. The party’s district committee member Ch. Babu Rao lampooned the ruling party leaders in the district and accused them of ‘utter failure’ in addressing people’s woes. Party district secretary B. Umamaheswara Rao, central committee member Paturi Ramaiah, State committee member Y. Venkateswara Rao and others also spoke. The meeting was preceded by a rally by party workers.
