Vikram gets top billing

KOLKATA: The new season for Indian juniors appears promising with a big list of participants from the country making it to the main draw of the ONGC ITF juniors tennis, which begins here at the DKS complex on Monday. After two hard court events in successive weeks in Chandigarh and Gurgaon, this grade III event will be held on clay.

B. Vikram Reddy, ranked 244 in the world, received the top seeding in the boys’ section while Grace Sari Ysidora of Indonesia (206) has the top billing in the girls’ section.

The seedings (all Indians unless specified): singles: Boys: 1. B. Vikram Reddy, 2. David Susanto (Ina), 3. Sudanwa Sitaram, 4. Christopher Marquis, 5. Chandril Sood, 6. Roman Piftor (Uzb), 7. Riki MacLachlan (Nzl), 8. Akash Wagh.

Girls: 1. Grace Sari Ysidora (Ina), 2. Tanvi R. Shah, 3. Rashmi Teltumbde, 4. Anastasiya Prenko (Tkm), 5. Sweta Solanki, 6. Ashvarya Shrivastava, 7. Rishika Sunkara, 8. Kyra Shroff.

The results: Qualifying (final round, Indians unless specified): singles: Boys: Kaza Vinayak Sharma bt Sagar Ahuja 6-3, 6-0; Botir Sapaev (Uzb) bt Diyor Khariddinov (Uzb) 6-1, 6-1; Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash bt Shahbaaz Khan 6-3, 7-5; Naveen Sai bt Shukhrat Gizatulin (Uzb) 6-4, 6-0.

Girls: Shraddha Dali bt Likitha Devraj 6-0, 6-3; Sai Pujitha Bandi bt M. Shreekantiah Shivani 6-1, 6-1. (Vera Tverdikova (Uzb) and Kesika Jayapalan also qualified receiving byes in the draw).
