MYSORE: Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj has criticised President Pratibha Patil for participating in a Marathi literary meet in Sangli in Maharashtra. He said he had respect for the President and had cast his vote for her in the Presidential elections. “But I have to severely criticise her for her participation in the meet,” he said in a press release here. He said the Akhila Karnataka Border Struggle Committee had given a call for a Rail bandh from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on January 27 to put pressure on the Centre so that it would accord classical language status to Kannada, provide jobs in the Railways to Kannadigas, sanction new railway lines for and implement the recommendations of the Nanjundappa Committee report. Mr. Nagaraj said that if the Centre did not accord classical language status to Kannada and issue a clear directive on appointment of Kannadigas in the Railways by January 27, the committee would stage an agitation in front of the Prime Minister’s residence from February 16.
