NEW DELHI: A businessman was shot at and robbed of Rs.16 lakh by three young men on a motorcycle at Vivek Vihar here on Saturday. The victim is stated to be out of danger. The incident took place around 8-45 p.m. when Deepak Bhatia (40), a Faridabad-based copper scrap dealer, was on his way home along with his relative Arun after collecting money from his clients at Viswas Nagar, Surajmal Vihar and Farsh Vihar. Three young men on a motorcycle intercepted their two-wheeler at Vivek Vihar. One of them whipped out a firearm and the other tried to snatch a bag containing the money from the businessman, at which he offered resistance. One of the robbers fired in the air and shot at Deepak, injuring him in the arm. Arun escaped unhurt. The robbers fled with the bag. Deepak was taken to Hedgewar Hospital and then to Max Hospital where he was operated upon. The police have registered a case and are trying to prepare sketches of the culprits, who were in their early 20s, on the basis of the description given by Arun. They are also showing the photographs of wanted criminals to him for identification.
