‘Implement Master Plan in letter and spirit’

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The PHD Chamber has urged the Delhi Development Authority Vice-Chairman Dinesh Rai to implement the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 “in letter and spirit”.

In a statement, a PHD Chamber spokesperson said the organisation had called for a timeframe for implementation of redevelopment plans for existing industrial areas. This was to be done keeping in mind the circulation patterns, parking facilities and environmental considerations. The PHD Chamber also demanded initiation of a public discussion to limit the number of vehicles on Delhi’s roads to check bumper-to-bumper movement and reduce pollution.

Other measures suggested included “pedestrianisation” of major commercial centres and creating public parking spaces in nearby areas. As a means of countering encroachment of public land in both residential and commercial areas, the Chamber also suggested creation of underground parking spaces below parks.

The Chamber also proposed sanction of offices and commercial establishments in redeveloped industrial areas to meet shortage of commercial space in the growing city and urged the authorities to disallow automobile workshops, warehouses, printing and dyeing works in residential areas.
