Top priority for solving women’s problems: Minister

NAGAPATTINAM: The State Government is according top priority for solving the problems of women especially in rural areas, said U. Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy Development, here on Saturday.
Distributing the prizes worth Rs.4.41 lakh to women self-help groups that won several competitions conducted in various parts of the district by the Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation as part of the ‘samathuva pongal’ celebrations, the Minister said that all the commercial banks had been instructed to provide financial assistance to the women self-help groups that came up with viable business or other ventures. He pointed out that the Government was implementing several projects in the State exclusively for the welfare of the women. And thousands of women SHGs in each district were benefited.
Tenkasi S. Jawahar, Collector, who presided over the function said that there were 11,808 women SHGs with 1,85,787 members in Nagapattinam district and pointed out that these SHGs had achieved a total savings of Rs.61.19 crore.
