GUNTUR: The Chief Controller (R&D), Defence Research and Development Organisation, and CEO and MD of Brahmos Aerospace, A. Sivathanu Pillai, has been selected for the prestigious Dr. Y. Nayudamma Memorial Award for 2007. He will be presented the award at a function to be held at Tenali on February 2. Mr. Pillai will deliver the 16th Dr. Nayudamma memorial lecture on the theme ‘India-An Emerging Strategic Power.’ “Dr. Pillai has been chosen for the award for his outstanding contribution to India’s defence research and development,” founder and managing trustee Nayudamma Memorial Trust P. Vishnu Murthy informed in a press release on Sunday. Earlier recipients of the Dr. Nayudamma Award include Sam Pitroda, G. Madhavan Nair, R.A. Mashelkar, M.S. Swaminathan and Dr. Nori Dattatreyudu (2006). Brahmos Aerospace is an Indo-Russian joint venture responsible for design, development, production and marketing of the most advanced Brahmos-supersonic missile. An engineering graduate from the Madras University, Dr. Pillai obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Pune in 1996. Dr. Pillai began his career with the systems engineering and systems management of launch vehicles at the ISRO Space Science and Technology Centre at Thiruvananthapuram.
