BANGALORE: Transport operators began their indefinite strike on Sunday opposing mandatory installation of speed governors even as trucks from neighbouring States reportedly did not enter Karnataka to support the strike. Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners’ and Agents’ Associations G.R. Shanmugappa told The Hindu that nearly one lakh trucks from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, which used to ply via Karnataka to other States, desisted from entering the State. He said transporters in the State will pull their vehicles off the roads from midnight and continue the strike till the Government withdraws the speed governor rule. Meanwhile, the Karnataka City Taxi Operators Association has extended its support to the strike. Association president T. Prabhakar, in a press release, said the rule was not just and should be withdrawn. Alert issuedMeanwhile, instructions have been issued to the police to take steps to ensure smooth movement of vehicles in the State.
