BANGALORE: A vocational training unit and a day care centre for mentally challenged persons and persons suffering from other developmental disabilities was inaugurated at Arshinakunte, near here, on Sunday.
The Jeena Service Centre has been started by Karnataka Parents Association for Mentally Retarded Citizens (KPAMRC).
The centre will also house a workshop.
Inaugurating the centre at the Vishwashanti Niketan Group Home Rehabilitation Complex, R. Srinivasa Murthy, retired Professor of Psychiatry at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), complimented parents for developing the rehabilitation complex.
Dr. Murthy expressed the hope that the complex would formulate different programmes to help persons with disabilities in the State and elsewhere.
Facilities
On the project, president of KPAMRC K.R. Venkatesha said, “On completion, the complex will create facilities for long-term residential care and rehabilitation for 50persons.”
A press release said that the centre also provides a residential unit which can accommodate three sets of parents.
They can oversee the activities at the centre and provide love and affection to the residents.
