Auspicious beginning: Founder of YSSM Ashok Kumar Chatterjee, former Karnataka Governor T.N. Chaturvedi and former CJI M.N. Venkatachalaiah inaugurating the seminar in Hyderabad on Sunday. HYDERABAD: V.R. Panchamukhi, former Director General of Indian Council of Social Science Research, has called for monitoring what should appear in the media in a bid to promote human values. Lot of information that caused erosion of values appeared in the media and the managements justified putting it by shifting the blame on society, Dr. Panchamukhi said addressing a seminar on `Degradation of human values – is there a future?’ organised by Yogiraj Shyamacharan Sanatan Mission (YSSM) here on Sunday. He said the modern society witnessed collapse of values of contentment, cooperation, care, compassion, commitment, trust and faith. A good value system as exemplified by Kautilya’s ‘Artha Sastra’ was the most important ingredient for happiness of man. But, the collapse of values created a situation of strife and made man unhappy. H. Satpathy, Vice-Chancellor, Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidya Peeth at Tirupati, said India had a legacy of time tested values characterised by dharma, sanskriti, darshana and siksha. Justice M. N. Venkatachalaiah, former Chief Justice of India, said kriyayoga which was practiced at YSSM was an exciting journey that made one’s life worthwhile. T.N. Chaturvedi, former Karnataka Governor Justice J. Chelameswar, Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court and Ashok Kumar Chatterjee, founder Director of YSSM also spoke.
