‘There is sentiment for the formation of Telangana and no force can oppose it’

KARIMNAGAR: Minister for Rural Development G. Chinna Reddy on Monday clarified that he was not against the formation of Telangana state.

“I am for Telangana state and the people of the region want separate statehood, which is pending since Independence,” he said.

Talking to newsmen, he said: “I am not a Telangana drohi. I am in a responsible post and I cannot talk against the Government.”

He said that the party leaders have left the issue to AICC president Sonia Gandhi and are eagerly waiting for her decision.

He said that the Government had taken up four major irrigation projects at a cost of Rs. 6,500 crore in Mahbubnagar district to provide irrigation facilities to 6 lakh acres. Refuting the statements made by some Congress leaders that there was no sentiment in the Telangana region, he maintained “there is sentiment for the formation of Telangana state and no force can oppose it.”
