LSA secretary pays surprise visit to jail

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: M. Krishnappa, secretary of the Adilabad district Legal Services Authority (LSA), on Monday asked inmates of the district jail, Adilabad, who were not represented by advocates, to submit petitions requesting for free legal aid. He said poor inmates, who cannot afford to hire the services of a legal expert, will be provided legal aid from the LSA.

Mr. Krishnappa was on a surprise visit to the newly constructed district jail here.

During the visit, he checked all the barracks, kitchen, store room and toilets.

The LSA secretary found the quality of food wanting in certain aspects. Inmates also complained about the food quality and short supply of jail uniforms. He suggested provision of roti and dal to those inmates who are not habitual eaters of rice.

Mr. Krishnappa asked jail officials to send him a proposal for appointment of a doctor, pharmacist and nurse at the jail.
