AIADMK stages protest at Vriddhachalam

Special Correspondent

VRIDDHACHALAM: Cadres of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led by M.Thambidurai, MLA and party propaganda secretary, staged a demonstration at the Palakkarai intersection here on Monday, condemning the “maladministration of the Vriddhachalam municipality.”

Mr. Thambidurai said under M.K.Stalin the Local Administration Ministry had become non-functional and the Vriddhachalam Municipality was a classic example of inaction and inefficiency.

He stated the Pattali Makkal Katchi that was in the habit of pinpointing the lapses in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam rule had failed to direct Municipal Chairman V.K.Murugan, who belongs to the PMK, to set the house in order.

He alleged that the Chairman was deliberately neglecting the 11 Wards from where the AIADMK Councillors were elected by not providing the basic amenities. The local body had failed to perform and it was evident from the dark streets, bad roads and overflowing drainage. M.C.Sampath, east district secretary, V.T.Kalaiselvan, town secretary, and others participated.

‘Works taken up’

Terming the campaign as motivated, Mr. Murugan told The Hindu that in the 11 AIADMK wards works worth Rs 1.5 crore had been taken up.

Moreover, in the fourth ward (with AIADMK Councillor), comprising only railway employees, the municipality had provided pipeline at a cost of Rs 2 lakh even though there was no revenue generation from there.
