Three Maoists arrested

Malkangiri (Orissa): Three Maoists who were planning a major strike in Malkangiri district ahead of the Republic Day celebrations were today arrested and huge quantities of explosives seized from forests in Motu area near here, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of special operation group and police raided a Maoist camp in the forests in a joint operation and arrested the three ultras, Superintendent of Police S.K Gajbhiye told reporters.

The Maoists were identified as Salbam Mukta of Konta Naxal Dalam in Chhattisgarh and Kotam Malla and Modumu Rama of Motu Naxal Dalam in Orissa’s Malkangiri, he said.

Mukta, a hardcore ultra wanted in many cases including several killings, was mobilising the cadre here, he said.

A country made gun, landmines, huge explosive materials, over 50 gelatin sticks and two detonators were found in the camp, besides publicity material including CDs, the officer said.

The Maoists were planning a major attack ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in the district, he said. - PTI
