They also held a public meeting in front of the office of the Gajapati Collector BERHAMPUR: Tribals of Gajapati district held an armed demonstration at district head quarter town, Paralakhemundi on Monday demanding fulfilment of their demands by the government and administration. This tribal agitation had been organised by the tribal organisation, Lok Sangram Manch. Y.Sambashiva Rao, the central committee member of the CPI-ML (New Democracy) was present at Paralakhemundi to take part in this tribal rally. Tribals including women from Kasinagar, Gosani, Guma and Raigada blocks of Gajapati district had come to attend this tribal rally. With their traditional weapons in hand they took out a large rally at Paralakhemundi. Later they also held a public meeting in front of the office of the Gajapati Collector on tribal rights and their demands. Issue of pattasLed by tribal leader, Jacob Raita they handed over a memorandum to the district collector. The collector, D.V.Swami also held long discussion with the tribal leaders in the afternoon regarding their demands. Major demands of tribals were speedy allocation of pattas to tribals who have applied for it since years and issue of pattas for forest land occupied by tribals before 2005. They also wanted legal action against non-tribals who have taken over tribal land by deceit and return of these land patches to tribals again. They expressed their opposition to the irrigation project being taken up by Andhra Government on Mahendratanaya river as it would affect life of tribal peasants of Gangabada panchayat in Gajapati district. Other demands of agitating tribals included payment of prescribed minimum wage to the workers by the cashew processing units and repair of roads in remote rural areas.
