BHUBANESWAR: The people belonging to both the communities in the communal violence affected Kandhamal district were still living with fear in their mind, a team of leaders of the ruling Biju Janata Dal said here on Monday. A five-member team of the party that visited the violence affected areas in Kandhamal on January 19 and 20 said that normalcy had not been fully restored in the district. The leaders said that people belonging to both the communities had been affected by the violence. While more Hindus had been affected in Brahmanigaon, more Christians had been affected in Barakhama area, they said. Relief measuresHowever, senior legislator Jayaram Pangi who led the team said that they found the relief measures very satisfactory. “Not a single affected person complained about the relief measures being taken by the Government,” Mr. Pangi said. Asked about the reasons behind the violence, Mr. Pangi and other members of the team said they would not reply to this query as a judicial inquiry had been ordered into the whole incident. Thousands of people had affected in the violence that claimed three lives. Hundreds of houses were burnt down and many churches were damaged during the violence from December 24 to 27.
