Krishnaiah to go ahead with indefinite fast on Jan. 28

HYDERABAD: A three-member sub-committee of the Cabinet held talks with R. Krishnaiah, president, AP Backward Classes Welfare Association, on the demands raised him but they ended inconclusively.
Mr. Krishnaiah announced later that he would go ahead with his plan to commence indefinite fast on January 28 on these demands.
The major demands put forth by him include payment of tuition fee in full by the government to BC students for all courses, enhancement of BC reservation in Panchayat Raj elections to 48 per cent in proportion to their present population and hike in mess charges for all categories of BC students to a uniform rate of Rs. 600 a month per head.
The three Ministers of the committee — M. Mukesh (BC Welfare) D. Prasada Rao (Revenue) and N. Raghuveera Reddy (Agriculture) — discussed the financial implications of the demands with Mr. Krishnaiah for an hour, while the latter made his stand clear to go on fast if there was no positive response.
