HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday agreed in principle to a proposal hiking the treatment cost for those insured under Employees State Insurance scheme in A.P. from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh for major ailments referred to super-speciality hospitals.

A press release said this move will bring those covered by the ESI scheme on a par with the State government staff for major ailments referred to super-speciality hospitals. Dr. Reddy also agreed in principle to remove the ceiling on super-speciality cases referred to the Nizam’s and Sri Venkateswara Institutes of Medical Sciences.

Also, he gave the nod for upgradation of the ESI hospitals from 50 to 100 beds.
