‘Factual mistakes’

This is in response to the news report “Agreement with France on civilian nuclear technology transfer” by Vaiju Naravane published in The Hindu on January 20, 2008. The item was brought to my attention on Monday, January 21, on my return from Paris. I am concerned that reporting of such news of national and strategic importance has some factual mistakes.

For example, I was in Paris, Villepinte, between 18 and 20 January, 2008 only to participate in the Board of Directors meeting of the International Institute of Welding. My visit was in no way related to any negotiations reported in the news item.

Dr. Baldev Raj,

Distinguished Scientist & Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam
