NEW DELHI: The Indian Newspaper Society has condemned the attack on the Ahmedabad office of the NDTV office, and deplored the use of might and force to gag the media. In a statement issued here on Monday, INS president Bahubali S. Shah said that attacks on the media were increasing by the day. “Those uncomfortable with the exposure of facts and truth are trying to gag the media by using might and force.” This kind of act displayed scant regard for the law of the land and growing level of non-tolerance and disrespect towards the Constitution, the statement said. “All those who believe in democratic values should condemn such acts. The government should not condone or tolerate such acts as it will otherwise embolden such miscreants to take law into their own hands,” Mr. Shah said. He urged the authorities to take necessary punitive action against the attackers. Some persons claiming to be members of ‘Hindu Samarajya Sena’ attacked the channel’s office on Saturday and assaulted two staffers to protest its SMS poll with noted painter M.F. Husain as a contender for Bharat Ratna.
