KATHMANDU: Nepal’s government and Tarai-Madhesh Democratic Party (TMDP) have agreed to hold talks on January 25, according to a Minister. Minister for Peace and Reconciliation Ram Chandra Poudel said the date was fixed after discussions with TMDP president Mahanta Thakur. Mr. Poudel hoped that the talks would create a conducive environment for the Constituent Assembly polls. He also claimed that the government had fulfilled most of their demands. The TMDP has demanded amendment to the election law, announcement of Tarai autonomous region, and guarantee of the right to self-determination for Madhesh, among others.
