Vice-Chancellor B.S. Sherigar may petition the Government on the issue DAVANGERE: Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University B.S. Sherigar has reportedly said that he would submit a proposal to the Government seeking establishment of a university in Davangere. The Davangere District Development Advisory Committee, led by its chairman M.S.K. Shastry, had met the Vice-Chancellor, who was here on Sunday, and had requested that a university be set up here. Mr. Shastry, in a release issued here on Monday, said that Mr. Sherigar had told the committee that he was also in favour of a university in Davangere, and that he would soon write to the Government in this regard. Mr. Sherigar, he said, had told the committee that China was progressing considerably in the field of education only because it had set up a large number of universities. Setting up of universities would throw open greater opportunities to students to pursue higher studies, he said, and underlined the need for a university here, the release added. Earlier, the committee had apprised the Mr. Sherigar about the need to set up a university in Davangere as it would cater to the needs of students from Chitradurga, Bellary and Haveri districts.
