DAVANGERE: A large number of activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party took out a procession here on Monday, demanding that Governor Rameshwar Thakur implement the pro-people programmes introduced by the previous Government. The protesters led by Davangere MP and BJP leader G.M. Siddeshwar raised slogans against the Governor for not implementing the “Sandhya Suraksha Yojana and the Nanjundappa Committee report on the removal of regional imbalances in the State. They questioned as to why many programmes and schemes introduced by the previous Government had not been implemented so far, and charged the Governor with acting at the behest of the Congress Party. Mr. Siddeshwar, addressing party workers, said that the administration had come to a standstill in the State after President’s Rule was imposed, and added that even the most urgent projects such as distributing compensation to the victims of the recent floods had not been taken up. He alleged that grants were not released to both Government and aided colleges in the State, as a result of which a large number of lecturers and college staff had not been paid for over two months. He said the former Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had earmarked Rs. 1,576 crore to implement the Nanjundappa Committee report and asked why the Governor was yet to release the amount. The former Minister S.A. Ravindranath, A.H. Shivayogiswamy, L. Basavaraj, Shivashankar participated in the procession.
