KARUR: The State Government would make available a total of 1,499 tonnes of cement to Karur district every month to be sold through the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation at a subsidised price of Rs. 200 per bag, according to Collector T.N. Venkatesh. Launching the sale of cement at subsidised price at the TNCSC godown at Industrial Estate here on Monday, Mr. Venkatesh said that Karur taluk would get 599 tonnes, Aravakurichi 269 tonnes, Kulithalai 431 tonnes and Krishnarayapuram taluk has been allotted 200 tonnes every month under the scheme. People constructing houses up to a maximum of 1,000 square feet should furnish the plan drawing to the respective tahsildar, pay the amount due for the cement at the subsidized price of Rs. 200 per bag and receive the consignment. At the maximum level, a beneficiary could get as much as 200 bags of cement. Those in the Aravakurichi taluk could receive the cement bags at the TNCSC centre there itself while those in Karur could get the cement at the TNCSC Industrial Estate godown, while people in the Kulithalai and Krishnarayapuram taluks could get the cement bags at the Sivayam godown of TNCSC. Krishnarayapuram MLA P. Kamaraj, former MLA and DMK district secretary Vasuki Murugesan, District Panchayat Chairman Poovai Ramesh Babu, Thanthoni Panchayat Union Chairman Bank Subramanian, TNCSC Regional Manager S.R. Kalaiselvan and others participated in the programme. TiruchiThe supply of cement at Rs. 200 per bag through godowns of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation commenced in the district on Monday. Tiruchi district has been allocated 3,875 metric tonnes (77,500 bags) of cement for the month of January for supply to those who construct a house of less than 1,000 sq.ft. A maximum of 100 bags can be purchased. Private cement companies Dalmia Cement and Grasim Industries will supply 1,210 tonnes and 2,665 tonnes respectively. In the first phase, 900 tonnes of cement has been procured and dispatched to the godowns of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation functioning in various taluks. Each one of the eight taluks – Tiruchi, Srirangam, Lalgudi, Mannachanallur, Manapparai, Musiri, Thottiyam and Thuraiyur - has been allocated 150 tonnes to start with. The applicants who require cement and have plan approvals issued after July 1, 2007 can apply to the Headquarters Deputy Tahsildar. The allotment letter will be given after the application is scrutinised. Handing over the allotment letters to a section of applicants to mark the launch of sale of cement at concessional rate in the district, the Transport Minister K.N. Nehru said cement will be supplied in blue bags to differentiate it from those being sold in open market. The move had been initiated by the state government with a view to containing cement prices and benefit the common public. The State Forest Minister N. Selvaraj said the common public could get cement at concessional rates in their respective taluks. District Collector Ashish Vachhani said the move by the state government was aimed at checking the cement price rise. He requested the private cement manufacturers to supply the product in time. Deputy Mayor M. Anbazhagan, MLA Anbil Periasamy, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, Senior Regional Manager, Venkatakrishnan spoke on the occasion.
