Sale of cement bags begins in Tirunelveli

TIRUNELVELI: Collector G. Prakash inaugurated the sale of cement bags at the reduced price of Rs. 200 per 50 kg bag to economically weaker sections at the Collectorate on Monday.

After handing over to a beneficiary the permit for buying cement bags at the reduced price, Mr. Prakash said M/s India Cements had allocated 4,370 tonnes of cement for Tirunelveli district in the first phase to be sold at the reduced price through the godowns at Thaazhaiyuththu (for Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai areas), Shencottai (for Tenkasi and Shencottai areas), Alangulam (for Veerakeralamputhur and Alangulam), Vasudevanallur (for Sivagiri area), Valliyoor (for Radhapuram area).

The godowns at Nanguneri, Sankarankovil and Ambasamudram will cater to the needs of the people in these areas.

“The cement, packed in blue colour polythene bags, will be sold for the beneficiaries constructing houses, which do not exceed 1,000 square feet. Each beneficiary can buy a maximum of 100 bags and those who dare to misuse this facility will have to face the music,” the Collector warned. Revenue Divisional Officer, Tirunelveli, G. Rajendran; Regional Manager, TN Civil Supplies Corporation, S. Muthukrishnan; and Public Relations Officer U. Ravindran were present.
