Helping hand: Minister for Pollution Control and Sports TPM Maideen Khan handing over a redesigned scooter to a youth in Tirunelveli on Monday.
TIRUNELVELI: Minister for Environment, Youth Welfare and Sports T.P.M. Maideen Khan disbursed welfare assistance worth Rs. 1.37 lakh to the physically challenged in a function held here on Monday.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister said a total of 28,692 physically challenged persons in the district had been provided with national identity cards, thanks to the efforts of Collector G. Prakash
.Prakash bagged the ‘Best Collector’ award for serving the disabled in the best possible manner.
Mr. Maideen Khan disbursed artificial limbs worth Rs. 63,500 to two persons, hearing aid worth Rs. 880 to a beneficiary, hand-pedalled tricycle to five persons and modified motorcycles to two beneficiaries on the occasion.
The Collector, Mayor A.L. Subramanian, Deputy Mayor K. Muthuramalingam and Palayamkottai Zone chairman Suba. Seetharaman were felicitated on the occasion.
