DINDIGUL: The State Government allotted 3,081 tonnes of cement to the district. Thirty tonnes had reached godowns of Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, according to Collector R. Vasuki.

Talking to reporters after launching the sale of cement at Rs.200 a bag in a TNCSC godown here on Monday, she said that the rest of the allotment would be despatched in a phased manner. Cement would be sold at Dindigul, Kodaikanal, Palani, Natham, Oddanchatram, Vedasandur and Nilakottai taluks. Seven applications had been received so far. Supply was made to all of them.

A maximum of 100 bags will be given to those who build houses of not more than 1,000 sq.ft. The scheme was designed to contain cement prices. Those who require cement can apply along with plan approvals issued after July 1, 2007 to the respective headquarters Deputy Tahsildars to get the allotment order. On the basis of the order, cement would be given to them, she added.

“If a person did not have plan approval, revenue inspectors will visit the construction site for verification. On the basis of their advice, allotment orders will be issued.”
