THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Adding momentum to the ongoing campaign by various associations for the constitution of a High Court Bench in the capital city, the members of the Trivandrum Residents Apex Council (TRAC) on Monday conducted a fast in front of the Secretariat demanding the constitution of a High Court Bench with filing powers in the capital city. Inaugurating the protest, Varkala Radhakrishnan, MP, urged the State government to show political will in setting up the Bench. Amaravila Ramakrishnan Nair, president, TRAC, who presided over the function, described the fast as a “token protest” and warned that the council would intensify its agitation across the district if its request for setting up the bench was not met. The function was also addressed by various elected representatives including Panniyan Raveendran, MP; V. Sivankutty, V. Surendran Pillai and P.Selvaraj, MLAs; C. Jayan Babu, Mayor; Anavoor Nagappan, district Panchayat president, C. Jaya Prakash, deputy mayor; Shivankutty, district president, Bharatiya Janata Party; Gangadharan Nadar, leader, Janata Dal; members of Central Government Pensioners Union, Trivandrum Bar Association, Senior Citizens Front Welfare Association, and representatives of TRAC including Thampanoor Balakrishnan, R.R. Unnithan, Parasala V.P. Rajan, Panagottukonam Vijayan, Katakkada Ramachandran, Venugopalan Nair, and Varkkala Suresh.
