NEW DELHI: An elderly businessman and his wife were allegedly slapped and pushed around by two “well-connected” young men in the presence of the police at Connaught Place here over the weekend. The young men, who were reportedly in an inebriated state at the time of incident, allegedly beat up the couple’s son and nephew and got into a scuffle with the policemen as well. It all happened around 6-30 p.m. when the security guard objected to the accused, Sunil Yadav and Daljeet Chopra, allegedly urinating near a building in L Block of Connaught Place. “It led to minor altercation between the guard and the two men. When my son Yuvraj and nephew Sunny heard the noise, they came out of the building and intervened. The accused were under the influence of alcohol and boasted that they were well connected and threatened them with dire consequences. They even beat up Yuvraj and Sunny and it was then that the police were called in,” said 61-year-old Sushil Garg, who owns an Adidas showroom in Khan Market. Mr. Garg and his wife Suman Garg, were informed of the scuffle by their son and they also reached the spot. “By the time we reached, a PCR jeep had also arrived there. Even the presence of the police did not deter the two from misbehaving with us and they pushed me and my wife on the road and slapped us. They were dropping names. Sunil said that he was the son of a Congress leader, while Daljeet claimed to be the son-in-law of an Assistant Commission of Police. As many as seven PCR jeeps were called in and the two were arrested,” said Mr. Garg, a resident of Civil Lines. The victims were taken to Ram Mahohar Lohia Hospital around 9 p.m. for the medical examination and a case was registered under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 354 (assault on woman with intent to outrage her modesty). The two were arrested and later let off on bail. Mr. Garg, however, claimed that he was not provided a copy of the First Information Report.
