The function held at the VJF Press Club on Monday should please not only the chess coach P. Ramakrishna but also all those of his ilk. Mr. Ramakrishna and his student N.L.V. Anusha were felicitated by the Mahesh Chess Academy for the latter winning the under-13 silver medal in the just-concluded national meet. Friends and relatives of the both thronged the venue. Another disciple of Ramakrishna, Ch. Mohineesh, who recently won the under-10 bronze medal in the Commonwealth championships, was also present. The gesture to felicitate the coach was appreciated by Additional Commissioner of Income Tax B. Jayakumar as it was good to recognise the efforts of a coach in shaping a player. Even sports lovers do not know or remember coaches of top players, he said. Mr. Jayakumar also advised the parents to ensure that their children concentrate on their studies also. There was a piece of advice from president of the All Vizag District Chess Association S. Varadarajulu to the parents. One could not be winning always and the parents should not get disappointed and take their children off the game when they did not win medals. Treasure house‘Kadhanilayam’ founded by noted writer Kalipatnam Rama Rao at Srikakulam continues to be a treasure house of Telugu literature. When the writer declared it an international library after receiving the Lok Nayak Literary Foundation Award, he perhaps is looking into future. Former MP M.V.V.S.Murthi offered to digitise the collection at ‘Kadhanilayam’ and turn it into an e-library. The writer, fondly called as Kara Mastaru, said that the TTD Chairman had also offered to digitise it. Perhaps, the efforts and those already launched by ‘Kadhanilayam’ will finally make it possible to download material from its unique collection of Telugu magazines and books. The wait continuesNotwithstanding the developments on the ground, night landing operations still seem to be a distant dream at the Visakhapatnam Airport. Though facilities at the airport are ready, night operations are being delayed for unknown reasons. While the civil authorities blame the Navy for the delay, the latter expresses its preparedness for taking flights at night. Vice Admiral R.P. Suthan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, had admitted shortage of manpower was one of the reasons for the delay but expressed readiness to stagger the timings to make the airport operational at least till 8 p.m. At the recent decommissioning of INS Ghorpad Vice Admiral Suthan said that DGCA clearance was required to start night operations. Whatever be the reason, both flight operators and air passengers are eagerly awaiting the launch of night operations. (G. Narasimha Rao, G.V. Prasada Sarma and B. Madhu Gopal)
