DSS takes out protest march

Staff Correspondent

KOLAR: Activists of the Dalit Sangarsha Samiti (DSS) on Monday took out a jatha from Hebbavni village in Mulbagal taluk to Kolar to protest against the alleged attempts by “caste” Hindus to cover up a murder of a pregnant Dalit woman.

The DSS said although the parents of the victim were reluctant to lodge a police complaint, it had taken up the issue with the authorities.

Twenty-two-year-old Lakshmakka, who was working in the farm of K. Chengalarayappa for three years, was allegedly assaulted by his son K.C. Narayanaswamy.

The woman became pregnant with Narayanaswamy’s child. Mr. Narayanaswamy’s family, which learnt about this, allegedly killed Lakshmakka.

She was reported to be missing for several days. Her body was found on December 22. The accused allegedly offered inducements to the parents of the victim for not lodging a complaint, said Hoovarsanahalli M. Rajappa, DSS Bahgarpet taluk convenor.

Hundreds of activists of DSS from Bangarpet and Mulbagal taluk took out a jatha from Hebbani village on Monday.

CoD probe sought

The DSS urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to order a Corps of Detective (CoD) probe into the murder, Mr. Rajappa said. He said although the DSS had filed a complaint with Nagli police, the police were not ready to take action, he said.
