Telangana: senior Congressmen flayed

HYDERABAD: The senior Congress leaders, who are firm on their “now or never” stand on separate Telangana State, came in for sharp criticism from within the party.

Congress leaders and legislators, young and old, questioned the intentions of the seniors in raising Telangana slogan when Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been asked to take a final decision on the issue.

‘Undue pressure’

They criticised the group of senior leaders for trying to mount “undue pressure” on the party high command on Telangana.

“The attitude of the seniors reflects their lack of confidence in Ms. Gandhi and her leadership,” senior legislator P. Shankar Rao said. Another legislator B. Goverdhan questioned why the senior leaders failed to convince the leadership when they were holding top posts both at the Centre and the State.

The statement by MPs -- Madhu Yashki Goud, Sarvey Satyanarayana and Lagadapati Rajagopal -- also came in for criticism.

“They have the freedom to air their opinions, but it should not hurt others,” PCC spokesman Paladugu Venkat Rao said.

Mr. Goverdhan has asked the MPs to put in their papers first before making such claims.
