Telugu Ganga water for Chennai in April

HYDERABAD: Water from the Telugu Ganga canal will be released to Chennai once again in the month of April.
This will be in addition to the release in January in deference to a request by the Tamil Nadu government, Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, secretary, Irrigation told The Hindu after meeting Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on Monday.
Andhra Pradesh is in a better position this year to meet its commitment to Chennai as there is sufficient storage of water in both the Somasila (70 tmcft) and Kandaleru (45 tmcft) projects from where water is drawn for the Telugu Ganga have good storages at present.
