CPI (M) stalls land auction

HYDERABAD: Members of Hyderabad City Committee of CPI(M) on Monday staged a dharna at Gruhakalpa protesting against the auction of lands owned by Andhra Pradesh Housing Board in twin cities and Visakhapatnam. Following the protests, the auction was immediately called-off.

The CPI (M) workers raised slogans during their protests and tried to forcibly enter the APHB office in Gruhakalpa before police took 50 of them into custody.

Rattled by the ruckus, APHB officials immediately decided to call-off the auction. The authorities of the housing board informed that they were still undecided on the new-dates to take up auctions once again.

Over two acres of land at Rayadurgam, 2,458 square yards of land at Bharatnagar, a ten and 17-acre plots at Visakhapatnam were scheduled to be auctioned on Monday.

Pattas to poor

In a release, secretary for Hyderabad City Committee of CPI (M) P.S.N. Murthy said the authorities should first distribute land ‘pattas’ to the poor before auctioning government lands to the rich.
