NEW DELHI: All nine Chief Ministers of the States ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies will be here on Tuesday to participate in a meeting of the National Democratic Aliance called by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani to discuss the preparations for the next year’s Lok Sabha election. BJP president Rajnath Singh, general secretary Arun Jaitley, and other senior leaders, including Murli Manohar Joshi, Venkaiah Naidu, Sushma Swaraj and V.K. Malhotra, will attend the meeting. From the Janata Dal (United), its president Sharad Yadav, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and its former president, George Fernandes, will be present. From the Shiv Sena, its president Udhav Thackeray and the former Lok Sabha Speaker, Manohar Joshi, are expected. The Akali Dal and the Biju Janata Dal will be led by the Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The BJP has already set up an election management committee and it wants to coordinate its efforts with those of its allies to gear up for the general election. The party wants to identify issues to be raised. The meeting will try to impress upon the NDA partners that they too must think and plan well ahead for the 2009 election.
