‘Ban fishing by factory vessels’

KOCHI: The executive committee meeting of the National Association of Fishermen on Monday urged the Union government to ban the operation of factory fishing vessels in the Indian Ocean as it was affecting the livelihood of the traditional fishermen of the country.

The factory fishing vessels were taking away major portion of the fish catch. The import of fish from European countries resulted in the local fish varieties losing price in the domestic market.
