Expectations high of Anthikad’s Vishu film

Sathyan Anthikad

Sathyan Anthikad is one director who has rarely disappointed his viewers. Sreenivasan, as scriptwriter, may have played a key role in making him one of the most popular directors of the Malayali, but he has continued to make good and successful films even after the duo ceased working together five years ago (Yathrakkarude Sradhakku was the last film they teamed up for).

Sathyan has been writing his own scripts for some time now.

The films he wrote and directed, Rasathanthram and Vinodayatra, have done well at the box office. So, the expectations are high about his new film, the shooting of which got under way in Kochi a few days ago.

The film, which will reach cinemas in time for Vishu, features two of our finest artistes — Mohanlal and Meera Jasmine.

“I had decided long time ago that Mohanlal would be the hero,” says Sathyan. “For the lead female role, Meera was my first choice, once again. She is, perhaps, the finest actress in South India today.”

This is, in fact, the fourth time in a row that Sathyan is casting Meera, beginning with Achuvinte Amma. “She is an amazingly talented and versatile artiste,” says the director, who has been around for more than 25 years.

Meera plays a designer in the new film. Mohanlal portrays a small-time businessman who enters her life. But the film actually is not about them. It is about three divorced women, being played by Mohini, Sukanya and Muthumani. The cast includes Mukesh, Vijayaraghavan, Ashokan, Innocent and Mamu Koya.
