NEW DELHI: Taking a peek into some of the world’s unique countries is Discovery Channel’s new series premiering on January 26. Tilted “Discovery Atlas”, the seven-episode series creates a complete visual record of the history, civilization, geography, industry, technology and people of India, Australia, Brazil, China, Italy, Mexico and South Africa as seen through the lives of their people.

A highlight of the series is that each two-hour episode will be narrated by a celebrity including Academy Award winning actor Russel Crowe in “Australia Revealed”, noted filmmaker Mira Nair in “India Revealed”, three-time Emmy Award winner James Spader in “China Revealed” and Italian actor-cum-filmmaker Isabella Rossellini in “Italy Revealed”.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Discovery Networks India’s Deepak Shourie said the series would inspire viewers through captivating photography and compelling stories that strike at the heart of a country and its people. “With its high-quality production values, ‘Discovery Atlas’ brings incredible depth and scale to some of the world’s most fascinating countries, capturing what is at the heart of our channel -- creative storytelling and the joy of learning something new.”

On Republic Day, “Discovery Atlas: India Revealed” will show the country’s rich history and cultural diversity. Exploring stories from the Amazon to Sao Paolo’s hair-raising helicopter commute and from soccer to Rio’s most famous landmark -- the Christ of Redeemer statue -- is the episode “Discovery Atlas: Brazil Revealed” that will be aired on February 2.

“Discovery Atlas: China Revealed” on February 9 will bring alive the fascinating and complex contemporary life of one of the oldest civilizations on earth. It will showcase rice farmers tilling the land that their ancestors worked on for over 18 centuries and monks teaching 500-year-old discipline.

Covering everything from a jockey participating in the world’s fastest horse race to the Missoni family’s fashion world is “Discovery Atlas: Italy Revealed” that goes on the air on February 16.

“Discovery Atlas: Australia Revealed” on February 23 will showcase the world’s oldest culture of aborigines, a cattle round-up on the largest ranch on earth and other interesting facets.
